I thought, “this is it!” as the tornado bore down upon the building where I was attending class. While I wasn’t injured, the sound and the shaking were so intense that I thought for several seconds that death was inevitable. I walked away with no scars, just fiberglass particles embedded in hands, face, and clothing. My hands sparkled for a week. The clothes I wore that day had to be thrown away.
bought a bass
burnt my face
accidentally left beth behind
lived in a tiny
smoky apartment
with bumpy floors
and fridge that whined
oh always paying
for the mistakes here
oh all the things
we left behind
four hundred dollars
to play music
the music is inside
numbed calloused
glued string fingers
seem to have
their own mind
oh always paying
for the mistakes here
oh all the things
we left behind
KC only got you for one year
You wanted PA but Kane sent you here
LA beckoned while you thought twice
Georgia gambled and won ChiTown with a toss of dice
Clinton moved on but some hearts held strong
Trains horns battled silent against the siren song
Lost our security but found something more
Forced open eyes and saw what was next door

My name is Sarah Wilkes and this is my blog and my place to display my photos and poetry. I love life and people and being involved. I used to be a theatrical stage manager and that was wonderful. Now I'm a computer science student and that's pretty good too. Enjoy.
